Every great initiative begins with a small act of kindness.
During the holy month of Ramadan 2026, one of our well-wishers and donors was travelling with his family when he noticed an elderly street vendor struggling to sell strawberries from a heavy basket in the scorching heat. He stopped, spoke to the vendor, and understood his difficulties.
Soon after, he noticed a three-wheeler electric cart capable of carrying heavy loads with less physical effort. This sparked a simple yet powerful idea: Why not provide these carts to unemployed individuals and hardworking street vendors, helping them earn better and live with dignity?
And so, the E-Cart Project was born.
Through this initiative, Khidmat Charitable Trust provides three-wheeler electric carts to eligible unemployed individuals and roadside vendors, helping them expand their businesses, reduce physical hardship, and build a sustainable livelihood.
Alhamdulillah, what began with one small idea has grown into a movement of empowerment, with 55 E-Carts distributed so far in Mumbai, Kashmir & Other Parts of Maharashtra. Our next goal is to cross 100 E-Carts and beyond, reaching more families in need of livelihood opportunities.
The E-Cart Project follows a strict, transparent, and multi-level verification process to ensure that assistance reaches those who genuinely need it.
The process begins with a personal interview to understand the applicant's circumstances and actual needs, followed by the completion of an application form. Our team then conducts surprise background verification visits to the applicant's home, shop, or workplace to assess their situation.
Following verification, the application undergoes an initial management review and recommendation. Final approval is granted only after review by a minimum of two trustees. Once approved, the E-Cart keys are handed over to the selected beneficiary.
Our commitment does not end with the handover. Through regular follow-up calls and field visits, we monitor the beneficiary's progress and ensure that the cart continues to serve its intended purpose of creating a sustainable livelihood.
Every E-Cart is awarded with care, verified through due diligence, and supported with a commitment to long-term impact.
We believe charity should not only provide temporary relief but also create lasting independence. Our aim is to empower people to earn through their own efforts, support their families, and move from being recipients of assistance to becoming contributors to society.
Our dream is to see today's beneficiaries become tomorrow's givers of Zakat rather than its recipients.
