It Takes Courage to live a life on a Machine
- Chronic kidney disease (CKD) presents a significant challenge in India, with approximately 220,000 new cases of end-stage renal disease (ESRD) diagnosed annually.
- This surge necessitates around 34 million dialysis sessions each year.
- Alarmingly, nearly 70% of affected individuals are unable to afford or sustain the ongoing treatment due to financial constraints, and only 10–20% receive timely dialysis.
Khidmat Charitable Trust's Dialysis Initiative
- In response to this pressing need, Khidmat Charitable Trust (KCT) established a state-of-the-art dialysis center in 2016, located in Nagpada, Mumbai.
- This facility is equipped with 16 dialysis machines, operating in two shifts from 7:00 am to 3:00 pm, thereby accommodating up to 32 patients daily and performing approximately 800 dialysis cycles per month.
- Each dialysis session is provided at a subsidized cost of ₹950, ensuring affordability for underprivileged patients.
Comprehensive Patient Support
Beyond dialysis treatments, the center adopts a holistic approach to patient care by providing necessary medications, injections, and nutritional support through ration distribution. Additionally, KCT assists patients in navigating and availing government schemes designed to alleviate the financial burden associated with chronic illnesses.
Community Outreach and Awareness
Understanding the critical need for increased dialysis capacity, KCT actively raises awareness about CKD and advocates for enhanced accessibility to dialysis treatments. By collaborating with government entities and private organizations, KCT strives to bridge the gap in healthcare services for economically disadvantaged populations.
